Raising Godly Children in a Changing World

Raising Godly Children in a Changing World

Parenting in today’s world is no easy task. Society constantly shifts its values, media influences are stronger than ever, and biblical principles are often challenged. As Christian parents, how can we raise children who love and follow God despite these challenges? The answer lies in intentional, faith-filled parenting.

In my book, Parenting God’s Way, I explore biblical principles that help parents instill godly values in their children. This blog post will highlight key insights from the book and provide practical ways to raise godly children in a world that is rapidly changing.

1. Build a Strong Spiritual Foundation

The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” This means instilling a love for God early on.

Practical ways to build a spiritual foundation:
✅ Read the Bible together as a family.
✅ Encourage daily prayer, both individually and as a family.
✅ Make church attendance and participation a priority.
✅ Teach children to apply God’s Word in their daily lives.

A strong foundation in faith will help children stand firm when faced with worldly influences.

2. Lead by Example

Children learn more from what they see than what they are told. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 instructs parents to impress God’s commandments on their children by living them out daily.

Ask yourself:

  • Do my children see me praying and reading the Bible?
  • Do I demonstrate love, patience, and forgiveness?
  • Do I practice what I preach?

Modeling Christlike behavior at home creates an environment where faith becomes a natural part of life.

3. Teach Biblical Morals in a Confusing Culture

Today’s culture promotes self-centeredness, instant gratification, and moral relativism. However, God’s Word remains unchanging. As Christian parents, we must teach our children absolute truth based on scripture.

Isaiah 5:20 warns, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.” To counter the world’s shifting values, we must:
✔ Teach children to discern right from wrong using the Bible.
✔ Discuss moral issues openly and from a biblical perspective.
✔ Equip them with scripture to stand against cultural pressures.

In Parenting God’s Way, I emphasize that teaching biblical morals isn’t just about rules—it’s about helping children develop a heart that seeks after God.

4. Guard Their Hearts and Minds

With technology and media playing a huge role in our children’s lives, it’s essential to be mindful of what they consume. Philippians 4:8 encourages us to focus on things that are true, noble, and pure.

Practical ways to guard their hearts:

  • Monitor social media and online activity.
  • Encourage godly friendships and mentors.
  • Limit exposure to ungodly content in entertainment.
  • Encourage reading Christian books and listening to faith-filled music.

Protecting their minds doesn’t mean sheltering them from the world, but equipping them to navigate it wisely.

5. Discipline with Love and Purpose

Discipline is not about punishment—it’s about training children in righteousness. Hebrews 12:11 says, “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

Discipline should be:
✔ Consistent – Children need clear boundaries and expectations.
✔ Loving – Correction should always be done in love, not anger.
✔ Purposeful – Discipline should teach valuable lessons, not just enforce rules.

In Parenting God’s Way, I highlight how biblical discipline helps shape character and prepares children to live a life that honors God.

6. Encourage a Personal Relationship with God

Ultimately, our goal as parents is not just to teach about God but to guide our children into a personal relationship with Him. John 15:5 reminds us that apart from Christ, we can do nothing.

Ways to encourage a personal faith:
✅ Help them develop a daily habit of prayer and Bible reading.
✅ Allow them to ask questions and seek their own understanding of faith.
✅ Encourage them to serve and use their gifts for God’s glory.

Faith is not just about rules or traditions—it’s about knowing and loving God personally.

Raising godly children in a changing world requires faith, intentionality, and reliance on God. While challenges exist, we have the Bible as our guide and the Holy Spirit as our helper.
